war mart
drawing the military-industrial complex
Although the military-industrial complex is widely acknowledged as a factor in war, it is rarely the subject of war art. An informal network of alliances, it is difficult to pin down. It is most visible at arms fairs but here it is veiled behind the rituals of business. I get inside these events as a war artist under the pretext of sketching tanks, and then caricature the slogans, sweeteners and handshakes in an attempt to strip away the polite facade.
